- Dougbe River School of Liberia - West Berlin Presbyterian Church is one of many churches and organizations that partners with the Dougbe River Presbyterian School of Liberia. The school's mission is to reach out to the people in this rural area of Liberia with education and Christianity. The school's vision is that Liberian young people, empowered by education, can develop their nation and profoundly reduce poverty. The school is open to all children regardless of religion, age, race, gender or ethic group. The school also stand for peace, unity, reconciliation, honesty and development. Our global mission is to support the school through prayer and giving. Some examples include: collecting flip flops and school supplies for the children as part of our Vacation Bible School and contributing annually via a holiday collection of monetary donations. We enjoy periodic visits and updates from school founder Issac Monah where he brings news of the schools progress, impact and future.
West Berlin Presbyterian Church also shares a personal connection with the Dougbe River Presbyterian School of Liberia. Church member, Scott McGraw is a decades-long friend of the school's founder, Isaac Monah. Isaac met Scott in the forest of Africa in the early 1990's. Isaac and Scott became fast friends as Isaac shared his knowledge of the forest and its monkeys with Scott, an anthropology graduate student at the time. In 2001, with Scott's help and encouragement, Isaac moved to Ohio. In 2007, Isaac returned to his home village in Liberia for a visit. That trip inspired his dream of a school to provide opportunity to the children of his village. Isaac and Scott have shared much during their long friendship.
